Listen: Metallica and Miley Cyrus Perform “Nothing Else Matters” Together Live on ‘Howard Stern’

Metal

One of the most attention-grabbing collaborations on The Metallica Blacklist, an upcoming album that features 50+ artists spanning a vast range of genres covering songs from Metallica’s Black Album — in celebration of its 30th anniversary — is the cover of “Nothing Else Matters” by Miley Cyrus. All sorts of other fascinating covers are contained therein, from electronic to classical to reggaeton… but, ya know, Miley.

That cover has been out for a minute, but Metallica and Ms. Cyrus gathered together on a recent episode of The Howard Stern Show to perform the song live for what I believe is the first time (Miley’s covered it on her own in the past). And she sounds good! The band sounds good. I like hearing her harmonize with Hetfield on the choruses. It’s a solid cover.

Elsewhere on the compilation, Corey Taylor, VolbeatWeezerBiffy Clyro, Chris Stapleton, Royal Blood, Ghost, the Hu, Elton John, Yo-Yo Ma, Chad SmithPhoebe Bridgers, and more deliver covers of Black Album tunes. That comes out on October 1, while a super-duper-extra-special-deluxe thirtieth anniversary reissue of the Black Album will arrive this Friday, September 10.

Give the Met / Miley live collabo a spin below.

Metallica have been deep in “some pretty serious writing” for their next album since last November with the most recent update, indicating ten songs were partially written, coming this past May via frontman James Hetfield.
