Lil Nas X shares update after suffering partial paralysis in his face

Lil Nas X has shared an update after he recently suffered partial paralysis in his face.

The rapper was taken to hospital earlier this week and at the time took to social media, uploading a video of himself in a gown saying he’d lost “lost control” of the right side of his face.

Now in a new update on his Instragram Stories, he revealed that has regained some movement in the right side of his face, specifically the lower half.

Filming himself chewing a piece of gum for medicinal purposes he added: “I’ve been chewing a lot so I can get this muscle stronger,” he said, pointing to his mouth. “It’s much butter!”

While Nas noted his left eye still “needs to play catch-up,” he seemed confident about his improvement overall. “I can give a genuine smile, so that’s good!” he added.

He has yet to reveal what caused the partial paralysis, but fans have speculated that it may be Bell’s Palsy – an idiopathic condition, meaning an exact cause for the paralysis cannot be pinpointed – or Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, a nerve issue that similarly causes facial paralysis alongside other side effects, including temporary hearing loss.

Other musicians that have suffered from either Bell’s Palsey or Ramsay Hunt Syndrome include Justin Bieber, who revealed in 2022 that he suffered from the latter, leaving him partially paralysed in the right side of his face for some time. He has since made a full recovery.

Lil Nas X released the ‘Days Before Dreamboy’ EP last month via Columbia Records. He launched the campaign late in 2024 with the ‘Light Again’ single, which was then followed by ‘Need Dat Boy’ in November and ‘Hotbox‘.

‘Days Before Dreamboy’ serves as a prelude album to ‘DREAMBOY’, which has yet to receive a release date but is expected to arrive sometime this year.
