Leon Thomas Taps Halle for New Song ‘Rather Be Alone’: Listen

R&B

Leon Thomas has joined forces with Halle for his new song “Rather Be Alone,” which he co-produced with Freaky Rob and D. Phelps.

The progressive soul track, anchored by a bluesy guitar, marching drums, and fleeting strings, hears Thomas contemplating walking away from a relationship that no longer serves him. “Rather be alone / Than in a broken home,” he croons.

Halle sings from a place of understanding Thomas’ perspective, but wants to work through their issues before giving up on each other. “You’re dangerous, my baby, we’re broken, but beautiful / So don’t you give up, up on me, baby,” she coos.

Speaking on his collaboration, Thomas wrote on Instagram, “@hallebailey really brought something special to this one. Let it play, let it sit with you.”

“Rather Be Alone” follows Thomas’ “Mutt (CB Remix)” with Chris Brown, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B Digital Song Sales chart.

The original version of the latter track, from Thomas’ second album, MUTT, continues to rise on the Hot 100. At the time of publication, “Mutt” is at its peak position, No. 16.

“Rather Be Alone” and “Mutt (CB Remix)” are expected to appear on Thomas’ upcoming Mutt deluxe album. The expanded set is said to have additional collaborations with Kehlani, Big Sean and Stormzy.

On Valentine’s Day, Halle released her latest single, “Back and Forth,” which was her first new release of the year. In 2024, she dropped two solo singles — “Because I Love You” and “In Your Hands” — and joined her sister Chlöe on “Want Me” from her second album, Trouble In Paradise
