Lekan Releases New Song ‘614’

R&B

R&B newcomer Lekan has returned with his new single “614” via Human Re Sources.

The soulful track was produced by his frequent collaborator Bongo ByTheWay (Mary J. Blige, Jazmine Sullivan).

Titled after the area code of Lekan’s hometown, Columbus, Ohio, “614” is the Nigerian-American’s testimony to the pursuit of his dreams.

“Saw the tears from my mama / Hope my father prayin’ for me / Told my brother, I’ma do it / Told my sister that I’m sorry / But I gotta make a move,” he croons.

Halfway through the song, the production morphs into a trippy soundscape, with hard-hitting drums and chopped and screwed ad-libs.

Speaking on “614,” Lekan shares, “This song is a slight introduction into my world and where I’m from. I’m expressing the mentality I had to have within the place I grew up – hopeful and bright to dark and reflective.”

“614” is Lekan’s first song release of 2024. Last year, he dropped his first three singles — “Familiar,” “Need Somebody” and “Pray For Me” — all produced by Bongo ByTheWay. The former track is Lekan’s most popular so far, with 2.4 million streams on Spotify

The rising singer will perform at the Sol Blume Festival in Sacramento, California, on May 3. Snoh Aalegra, JoJo, Omar Apollo, Maeta, and Naomi Sharon are also on the bill.
