R&B powerhouse Leela James has scored a new top 10 single on Billboard.
Her current single, “Right Back In It,” moves from No. 13 to No. 10 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, which highlights “the week’s most popular songs, ranked by radio airplay detection as compiled by Luminate.”
It’s James’ fourth 10 hit on this chart. It’s the second release to enter this week’s top 10, along with Usher’s “Good Good” featuring 21 Savage and Summer Walker at No. 9.
Her last top 10 was “Complicated” in 2021. The lead single from her previous album, See Me, peaked at No. 1 for three weeks in autumn 2021. The Rex Rideout-produced track later received an official remix that featured Anthony Hamilton.
“Right Back In It” is the lead single from James’ forthcoming album, Thought U Knew, which arrives Oct. 27 via BMG. James shared the inspiration behind the blissful tune she co-wrote with Franci Richard, upon its release this summer.
“My music is my art and I’m always excited to share my craft with the world. ‘Right Back In It’ is special as it highlights the importance of getting back to yourself, getting back to love, and getting back to what makes you feel good,” James shared.
“Right Back In It” is one of James’ most popular songs on Spotify, with almost 429,000 streams. The official video, which was released at the same time as the song, has been viewed over 820,000 times on YouTube.
Circling back to James’ next album, Thought U Knew is titled after its second single. Rideout also produced this track. It was treated with a music video inspired by the cult classic, 1996’s Set It Off.
As noted above, Thought U Knew is the follow-up to James’ 2021 album, See Me. It was among Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2021 list.
Starting on Oct. 22, Leela James will tour internationally to promote her album Thought U Knew. The tour will conclude on Oct. 29. For more information and tickets, please visit leelajames.com.
