With just two weeks until her sophomore album Pieces of Me arrives, Lady Wray enters an appreciably toxic territory with her most recent single, “Joy & Pain.”
Co-written with Leon Michels, who also produced the record, Wray’s latest finds her putting on one of her most affecting vocal performances. She lists off the unique elements of a romance that keeps the flame burning bright, even if it means she’ll do time behind bars.
“You treat me ice cold / I feel your flames / You let me sink, then sail / You give me heaven and hell / You threw me in jail, then you put up my bail,” Wray sings.
As Lady Wray’s new single “Joy & Pain” and other singles prove, Pieces of Me, out Jan. 28, via Big Crown Records, will be an album worth getting your hands on. She last released “Thank You” before closing last year.
Notably, Wray collaborated with Rated R&B to premiere the video for “Under the Sun.”
