Korn Guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer to Release New Fragrance

Metal

You wanna know something I can honestly say has never crossed my mind? Wanting to smell like a rockstar, especially one from a nü metal band. I don’t know why but I feel like of all the subgenres they don’t rank very highly in the scent department. But I guess Korn‘s guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer wants to prove me wrong because he’s coming out with a new cologne. Yeah, we’re getting some of that Munky aroma.

Shaffer’s doing this through a collaboration with the Germany-based communications agency Reference Studios and their new fragrance brand Reference Times. That’s all well and good, but what seemingly sucks about the joint venture is the fact that it’s also coming by way of a collaboration with EveryHuman, which is the world’s first AI-guided scent creation platform. I have no idea what the fuck that means, but the fragrance will exclusively launch in Berlin, Germany tomorrow at 11 a.m. CET at the Reference Studios exhibition space.

There have been no hints or details given on what the fragrance might smell like, what its base, middle and top notes are, or if the scent will be gender-neutral. I know people use AI for things like writing and visual creation, but I never thought AI would make its way into olfactory territory. I’m lowkey weirded out by this, but also so intrigued to see what it might smell like. If there are hints of corn peppered throughout the scent, I think I might keel over and die out of kitschiness.
