Kelly Price and Tamika Scott will star in the upcoming holiday film, The Christmas Ringer.
The original film, directed by Patricia Cuffie Jones and written by Jones and Gregory Adams, will premiere Thursday, Nov. 30, exclusively on BET+.
Christmas Ringer is about Nicole (played by Trenyce Cobbins), a once-prominent R&B singer known as the Princess of Christmas, whose career became stagnant after her manager/fiancée financially cleaned her out.
Nicole needs a music video for her comeback holiday tune but lacks the funds. Instead of accessing her trust fund prematurely, Nicole’s mother (played by Arischa Conner) suggests she return home to become the choir director for the upcoming choir competition. Winning could also benefit the church financially as her brother (Jarrett Michael Collins) took over it following their father’s passing.
Nicole struggles with choir management due to two main issues: Cherise (played by Scott), the lead singer, is resistant to new leadership, and Claire (played by Price), the previous choir director, is now competing as a rival lead singer and willing to use underhanded tactics to win.
Christmas Ringer is produced by Swirl Films and Eric Tomosunas. It also stars Chrisette Michele, Q Parker, Akbar V, and Adrian Hernandez.
As for music, Price recently marked the 25th anniversary of her debut album, Soul of a Woman, with an extensive interview with Rated R&B.
In the interview, she discussed the album’s creation with additional commentary from several collaborators, including Herb Middleton, Carlos ”Los Vegaz” Thornton, Q Parker, and Lil Cease.
Price released her faith-based EP, Grace, in 2021. The six-track project includes the key track “Dance Party,” which has a supporting video. Later, in 2021, Grace was nominated for the Best Gospel/Inspirational Award at the Soul Train Awards.
This past July, Scott made her debut as a solo artist on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart with her song “Tonight,” featuring Method Man. This was an updated version of her 2019 single, which entered the chart at No. 30. It eventually peaked at No. 24.
Michele was recently invited to join Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. as an honorary member.
On a music note, her 2009 hit single “Epiphany (I’m Leaving)” is seeing a resurgence on TikTok. To further boost its popularity, a remix by Loog and ProdbyAbnormal has been released.
Additionally, Q Parker has been relatively quiet with music. In 2020, he released two singles, “Made For” and “I Need You.”
Both songs walked the line of inspiration. Following this, he collaborated with Candiace (“Benefits, Pt. II“) and RL and Willie Taylor (“Fireworks“) for respective releases.
