Kaytranada Shares Two New Songs: ‘Lover/Friend’ and ‘Stuntin’

R&B

Kaytranada is back with two new songs, “Lover/Friend” and “Stuntin.”

The Haitian-Canadian producer helmed each track, with one featuring Rochelle Jordan and the other with Channel Tres.

In “Lover/Friend,” Rochelle Jordan wants to pursue a romantic relationship with someone who wants a quick response about their status.

“No defenses, satisfaction / Stopped your heard, just to get a reaction / Kept you wanting, let it haunt you / Can’t deny, when it’s right / No one has to lose,” Jordan sings lushly.

Meanwhile, the California-based rapper Channel Tres portrays himself as a ladies’ man on “Stuntin.” He is trying to figure out which woman he will leave with.

Both “Lover/Friend” and “Stuntin” were released with instrumentals.

According to press materials, Kaytranada’s forthcoming album is set to arrive in 2024, and each new song serves as a preview.

In an Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe, Kaytranada gave some insight on his impending untitled work.

“I think this album is going to be more hands-on, and it’s unapologetically like, we’re going to do it right. Even if I did it right before, I’m like, okay, I’m in a new phase in my life and I’m going to package it how I want it in a way, because I already did that,” Kaytranada shared.

Kaytranada’s upcoming album will follow his Grammy-winning album, Bubba, which was released in 2019. The album consisted of 17 tracks and included artists such as Tinashe, SiR, Masego, VanJess, Durand Bernarr, Teedra Moses, and Kali Uchis.

Bubba won a Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album and Kaytranada was recognized as the first Black artist to win this award in its then-16-year existence.

Speaking of Uchis, Kaytranada also took home Best Dance Recording for their collaboration, “10%.”

Later in 2021, Kaytranada released his Intimate EP, featuring collaborations with H.E.R., Thundercat, and Mach-Hommy. The title track, which included H.E.R., received a Grammy nomination in 2023.

Most recently, Kaytranada joined forces with Amine to form KAYTRAMINÉ and released a self-titled project. It arrived in May.

Since his recent releases, Kaytranada has contributed to several successful projects with notable artists such as Joyce Wrice, Anderson .Paak, The Weeknd, Maeta, AMAKA, Shay Lia, and Victoria Monét.
