K. Michelle has unveiled the release date and artwork for her final R&B album, I’m the Problem. The album will be released Sept. 22 via MNRK Records.
The album cover depicts K. Michelle sitting on a bathroom floor next to a red cup with a blurred-out object that appears to be a light-blue gun. The album title is written in red on the bathroom mirror.
Regarding the album, K. Michelle told Rated R&B in 2022, “I’ve been healing through this album. I have dealt with my relationship through this album. I have dealt with my relationship with my son through this album. I have dealt with where I want to go in my future through this album.”
In that same interview, K. Michelle called I’m the Problem “super emotional.”
Upon announcing the album’s release date, K. Michelle issued “Scooch,” the first taste of I’m the Problem. The song reached No. 1 on R&B radio and Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart during the summer of 2022, marking her first time topping both lists.
“I wanted to do something different. I wasn’t doing any male-bashing. I wanted to start with something a little bit more bright or something you could dance to. It’s about to get warm. I want you to be able to go out and just do your thing when it comes to that,” K. Michelle told Rated R&B in March 2022 about releasing “Scooch” as the lead single.
K. Michelle went on her headlining I’m the Problem Tour earlier this year. During the tour, she released two singles: “You” and “Wherever the D May Land” featuring Gloss Up, each with their own accompanying visuals.
Along with the new album announcement, K. Michelle shares a brand new song titled “Blame Yourself.” On the self-berating track, where a woman realizes she is just another girl to a playboy, K. Michelle offers a word to the wise: “Stop giving all of you to somebody’s man.”
I’m the Problem will contain 19 tracks, making it her second longest album after 2017’s KIMBERLY: The People I Used to Know. The latter had 21 tracks and was K. Michelle’s last album for Atlantic Records.
Additionally, I’m the Problem, which was teased to be released in winter 2022, is the follow-up to All Monsters Are Human, released in 2020. It was among Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2020 list.
All Monsters Are Human features collaborations from Kash Doll and Yung Miami of City Girls. It includes “The Rain,” a top 10 hit at R&B radio and Billboard.
In August, K. Michelle’s debut album Rebellious Soul turned 10. Collaborators reflect on its creation with Rated R&B.
K. Michelle is set to perform on the R&B Music Experience Tour this fall. For more information, visit ratedrnb.com.
