Jorja Smith is broadening her sonic horizons with her new Guilty Beatz-produced song, “All of This.” Here, the African producer/DJ introduces Smith to a fresh audience through the Amapiano-inspired number.
Smith solemnly recounts how much she had given herself to an undeserving love in a sea of weeping synths and bolting percussion. She sings on the chorus, “That you had all of this / Oh-oh, you still search for bad / Oh, you fought all of this / You don’t even know how bad it got / So much for you’re my one and only.”
In a statement, she shares the origin of the simmering track. “I met [Guilty] when I went over to Port Antonio in Jamaica for a writing camp in 2019. He’s so wonderful to work with, and when we initially started the song, it was more a fall to the floor type beat. He’s shared Amapiano playlists with me before and then during the first lockdown in 2020, he sent me a version of the song like it is now. We then finished writing the song remotely, exchanging messages over WhatsApp with his girlfriend Abby, who is also a writer. It’s all about someone who doesn’t deserve you and thinking, wow, you really had all of my once, ew.”
Smith released her last project, Be Right Back, in May. She performed the holdover EP in its entirety for Vevo. More recently, she debuted a video for the EP’s song “Home.”
She plans to release her anticipated sophomore album at the top of next year.
