Jorja Smith’s sophomore album, falling or flying, has arrived via FAMM. The 16-track offering includes the previously shared songs “Try Me,” “Little Things,” “GO GO GO” and “Falling or flying.”
Regarding the title track’s music video concept, Smith explained, “[It] came to mind ‘cause I always wanted to shoot a video in space. ‘Falling Or flying’ just made me think of that. I wanted to go up into space with someone I love and cherish, but they didn’t want to come with me.”
Falling or flying is a healthy blend of confidence-boosting jams and introspective tunes.
“This album is like my brain. There’s always so much going on but each song is definitely a standstill moment,” Smith explained. “It touches on breakups, relationships with my friends, relationships with old friends, relationships with myself. It’s definitely about a lot of relationships, but every song I write I can sing it to myself.”
Falling or flying is the follow-up to Smith’s 2018 debut album, Lost & Found. In between albums, Smith released her Be Right Back EP in 2021. The project included a feature from Nigeria-born English rapper Shaybo on “Bussdown.”
Circling back to falling or flying, the British singer will support her new album at upcoming tour stops in the U.K. and the U.S.
She will perform at The Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, California, on Oct. 24, and at Apollo Theater in New York, New York, on Oct. 26. Tickets are on sale now for both shows at jorjasmith.com. Her U.K. tour dates are all sold out.
