Jennifer Hudson, Ledisi to Perform at White House Juneteenth Concert

R&B

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden have announced a Juneneeth concert. The special event will be held Tuesday, June 13, on The South Lawn of The White House.

R&B vocalists Jennifer Hudson and Ledisi are part of the performance lineup, which will also feature Audra McDonald, Method Man, Maverick City Music, Morgan State University Marching Band, “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band and more.

The event comes two years after President Biden signed bipartisan legislation establishing Juneteenth as a Federal holiday in the United States.

“And that’s why we must understand that Juneteenth represents not only the commemoration of the end of slavery in America more than 150 years ago, but the ongoing work to have to bring true equity and racial justice into American society, which we can do,” Biden said during his speech at the signing of the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act.

He continued, “In short, this day doesn’t just celebrate the past; it calls for action today.”

The Juneteenth concert is supported by National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, Pernod Ricard USA, STARZ #TaketheLead Initiative and The Recording Academy.
