Genre-defying singer and songwriter India Shawn has released her new single “Kill Switch” via VANTA Music/Hollywood Records.
On the ethereal, acoustic-driven track, produced by longtime collaborator D’Mile, Livvy Bennett and Michael B. Hunter, Shawn pumps the brakes on a friendship drifting toward romance. Rather than giving in to temptation, she is intent on preserving their platonic bond before it gets too deep.
“This could turn from a good thing to hate / Keep it shallow for our own sake / Don’t wanna pay with the thought / Of losing what we should keep,” she sings.
“‘Kill Switch’ is an unexpected shift, as I move away from the familiar shadows of unreturned love and reclaim the power to decide my own fate,” explains Shawn.
She continues, “It’s a song about recognizing the potential danger of crossing the line from friends to lovers, and trying to safeguard what’s real before it becomes too messy.”
“Kill Switch” arrives with a video directed by Anne-Sophie Bine and co-starring fellow singer Luke James. The cinematic clip can be watched below.

“Kill Switch” is Shawn’s first single of 2025. In September 2024, she released “There Must Be a God” from Hulu’s romantic drama movie She Taught Love. The song plays during the film’s end credits. Earlier that summer, Shawn joined TAVE and Bibi Bourelly on “No More Maybes.”
Regarding the latter track, Shawn noted, “I don’t think TAVE knew he was making one of my dream collaborations happen when he hit me for a verse on ‘No More Maybes.’ I’ve been a fan of Bibi for so long! It was cool to play with a different, darker sonic palette and to tap into a more rebellious side.”
India Shawn released her debut album,Before We Go (Deeper), in July 22 via LACA Records/Epic Records. The album included collaborations with Anderson .Paak (“Movin’ On”), 6LACK (“Not Too Deep”), Ambré (“Cali Love”), Unknown Mortal Orchestra (“Too Sweet”) and Cory Henry (“Patience”).
