Halsey has announced a brand-new single called ‘Safeword’ – check out the teaser clip below.

The song will follow on from the singer-songwriter’s fifth and latest studio album ‘The Great Impersonator’, which was released last October.

Taking to social media last night (February 24), Halsey posted a 13-second clip of the ‘Safeword’ music video. In the footage, the artist is seen donning a leather jacket, black-and-silver studded underwear and matching knee-high stiletto boots.

Portraying a dominatrix, she places her foot on the throat of a man wearing a leather submission mask. “You’re not the boss of me!” she shouts, before the screen cuts to display the ‘Safeword’ song title.

The visuals are soundtracked by a rocky, guitar-heavy instrumental.

In the caption, Halsey confirmed that both the ‘Safeword’ single and video would be arriving at 5pm GMT this Thursday (February 27). See the announcement post and video above.

In a recent exchange with a fan on X/Twitter, Halsey explained that she’d be performing some new songs on her 2025 ‘For My Last Trick’ tour in North America. “And even the one I’m dropping next week,” she added, hinting at ‘Safeword’.

Later, another follower asked the star to share on word to describe the imminent single. Halsey replied: “Obedience.” Check out the tweets here:

In a glowing five-star review of ‘The Great Impersonator’NME wrote: “Looking back through her recent catalogue, ‘Manic’ is more stylistically diverse, ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’ more musically ambitious, but ‘The Great Impersonator’ is Halsey’s most honest album – that is if you choose to believe her.”

The album also landed at Number 39 on NME‘s 50 best albums of 2024 list, with the single ‘Lonely Is The Muse’ earning a place in our 50 best songs of the year feature.
