Genia Releases New Project ‘4 PM in the Ville’

R&B

R&B newcomer Genia has released her debut mixtape, 4 PM In The Ville, via Def Jam Recordings.

The eight-track project includes her previously shared tracks “Introducing,” “Jaded” and “False Prophet.”

Each of the three mentioned tracks came with its own supporting video. These videos were self-directed and shot in black and white.

“The process of creating this tape has been a profound journey in and of itself. This tape embodies an essence of personal growth. Through this tape, I discovered a new passion for the art of directing. Creating the visuals, I found myself once again confronting my innermost pain. It allowed me to open up in ways I could never imagine,” explains Genia.

In the first song, “Lana’s Dream,” Genia and her grandmother talk about Genia’s goal of winning a Grammy. Meanwhile, in the third track, “The One,” Genia doubles down on her reluctance to commit to a long-term relationship.

“You say that I’m trippin’ / Like I ain’t got a reason / You know that I know you’ll only be here for a season,” she sings without batting an eye. “If you wanna go, then go / I won’t stop you from leaving.”

On “Betrayed,” Genia laments wasted time and tears on an unfaithful partner and works to piece herself back together again after leaving him behind.

“I always showed up whenever you needed me / I was a real one, gave you all my loyalty / I been down for too long / You been around for too long,” she sings against a simple backdrop.

In the finale mixtape, “Gratitude,” Genia reflects on the happy times at the beginning of a relationship and hopes to return to that joy.

Genia has recently revealed the official self-directed music video for “The One” during the ongoing press run for 4 PM In The Ville. You can watch the video below.
