Gallant Returns With New Song ‘311’

R&B

Gallant is back with a new single called “311!” It’s the Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter’s first release in two years. It features musicians Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper and Keyon Harrold.

“311!” is a jazz midtempo ballad with touches of relaxed, slow-swaying keys and the warmth of Harrold’s trumpet. On this groove, Gallant sings about sending a report to authorities because he has not heard from his lady for a few days.

The arrival of Gallant’s “311!” which marks his first proper single since 2021’s Neptune, coincides with the launch of Martin’s O’Connor label, created in collaboration with Lowly and Create Music Group.

Not only is Gallant’s new song his first release for O’Conner, it’s also the lead single from a collaborative project with Martin titled sneek.

The record will feature production from Glasper and Martin, but no further details, such as its release date, have been announced yet.

As noted above, Gallant hasn’t released a new project in two years. His last project, Neptune, was released independently. It included singles such as “Comeback” and the Brandy-featured “Dynamite.

Neptune also features guest appearances from VanJess and Arin Ray.

In a spring 2021 interview with Rated R&B, Gallant revealed that the EP underwent several revisions before its release. “I feel like if I’m going to speak to an audience, I want to make sure that the kind of music that I’m making is honest and the lyrics feel like they came from pages in a journal,” Gallant shared.

Late in 2021, Neptune was featured at No. 3 on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2021 list.

“Unlike some of his contemporaries, Gallant has refuted the idea of repackaging such a seamless pice of art for a new wave of streams. Neptune is worth repeated listens just the way it is; short and sweet,” wrote Rated R&B’s Antwane Folk.

Since then, Gallant has been relatively quiet with releasing new music. However, he did co-write Elaine’s 2022 single “Fade Away” and was featured on Ariza’s “Appalachia.”

Gallant will reunite with soul legend Maxwell on his 2024 Urban Hang Suite Cruise after touring alongside him this fall.
