Progressive death metal lunatics Pyrrhic Salvation—a multi-state collab—are back with a new 20-minute EP, When Society Crumbles, which includes the title track divided into three expansive parts and an additional track, “Every Last Soul Unmade.” The EP is a rush of terse and atonal death metal peppered with quieter melodic moments. It’s performed by a trio of musicians—Michael Altobello (guitars/songwriting), Sagar Nadgir (bass/drums/lyrics), Shawn Ferrell (vocals)—scattered across the Northeast. Altobello and Nadgir started the collab originally nearly a decade ago, and in 2022 released the Manifestum I EP, which featured a different vocalist.

Production on When Society Crumbles was handled by the members of Pyrrhic Salvation. It’s set to be self-released digitally on February 14. Place your preorder here.

Here’s a statement from the band regarding its latest release:

“It’s been a while for us since we released Manifestum I in 2022, largely due to lineup, stylistic and production changes. We are happy to present our new EP, When Society Crumbles, full of apocalyptic themes touching on psychology, sociology, philosophy, various sciences and more. We decided to do a much longer track for a change here; although it may be overwhelming and even dense musically, we do recommend multiple listens to understand what we really mean in all of this and why we’ve written it as we have. There are many concepts for us to cover musically and we wanted both lyrics and music to have a mutual impact. Many themes will occur melodically, then reprise with dissonant voicing or context—listen for it.”
