California outfit Bred for Slaughter just keep on grinding. After releasing their first EP, Here You’re Born… Here You Die, last year, they’re already back with another. Titled Kill for Satan, Bred for Slaughter once again serve up a helping of gory, death metal-infused grind, featuring former Exhumed vocalist Mark Smith.
In addition to the deathgrind tendencies, there’s a dose of black metal influence incorporated in Bred for Slaughter’s sound on Kill for Satan, particularly on third track “Vacant Grave.” What Bred for Slaughter are doing isn’t exactly new but it’s always welcome, especially when it’s played with as much gore-happy enthusiasm as these four musicians approach it with.
“These five new songs of grinding, thrashing, headbanging madness cover genres of classic death, thrash and black metal in the vein of legends Morbid Angel, Deicide, Mayhem and Marduk,” Bred for Slaughter tell Decibel. “On vocals we have another scene veteran (ex-Exhumed demo days) Mark Smith belting out horrid death growls over shredding guitars and blasting Lombardo-esque drum fills. If you’re a fan of the old-school, one-of-a-kind era of death metal bands, this EP will bring you back to the heydays of the classic sounds and scene of death metal!”
