Swedish melodic black metal group Fatal Embrace made their first run as a band from 1992 to 1998, releasing a couple demos and their debut album, Shadowsouls’ Garden, released on Candlelight in 1997. According to the band, they still had plenty of ideas and went into the studio to record their second album, Hail Down Deep.
Fatal Embrace recorded, mixed and mastered Hail Down Deep with producer Christian Silver, who is now the band’s drummer, in March 1998 but the band members had begun to dedicate time to new projects and Fatal Embrace called it a day. That left Hail Down Deep unreleased, until the band reunited over a decade later in the late 2010s.
“When we got back together again as Fatal Embrace and we started talking about writing new music together again, we started talking about releasing Hail Down Deep first and then move on to writing new stuff,” Fatal Embrace explain. “As it turned out, it was really inspiring to write new music rather than to release an old album. So that was what we did. We wrote and recorded Manifestum Infernalis, but Hail Down Deep has always been a personal favorite of ours and we are really excited to finally have it released. Since our line-up has changed a bit we felt it would be most fair to the current line-up to let Henric Serholt step up to the microphone and re-record vocals for the album. He is and was back then our lyricist so it was a natural progression for us.
“The album has newly recorded vocals and a few additional guitars have been added. It was mixed and mastered by Christian Silver in 2024.”
Hail Down Deep is out now via Black Lion Records and you can listen to it below.
