Estelle Joins Austin Millz for New Song ‘Freeway’

R&B

R&B singer Estelle has teamed up with Harlem DJ and producer Austin Millz for his new single “Freeway.”

Over a stutter-stop beat and rapid handclaps, Estelle steps on the gas in a fast whip with the top down to get to her baby. She is anxious to be inside their arms and knows that rushing to get there is all worth it.

Millz saw collaborating with Estelle on “Freeway” as a big win.

“Working with Estelle was an honor for me. I reached out to her a while back about working together and we finally made it happen,” Millz stated. “I played her the “Freeway” beat in the beginning of the session and then we just loaded it up. She started writing, got in the booth, and as soon as she sang the first words, I knew we had something special.”

Estelle felt similar sentiments. “This song came about pretty naturally; we were literally on a freeway on the way to the studio when I came up with the hook… I’m happy to have walked into a beautiful track produced by Austin and walked out with a masterpiece,” she added.

“Freeway” is Millz’s second collaborative effort this year, following “Inhale / Exhale” with Sabrina Claudio. Both tracks are set to appear on his forthcoming EP, Breathwork, due later this year via Ultra Records.

Estelle, the host of The Estelle Show, exclusive to Apple Music, has been mum on the solo music tip. She last released an album nearly five years ago.

Inspired by her parents’ romance story, Lovers Rock was released on Sept. 7, 2018. The album featured the singles “Better” and “So Easy” featuring Luke James. The latter track peaked at No. 28 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.

Lovers Rock debuted and peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s Reggae Albums chart.

Since then, Estelle released a one-off track (“Set Me On Fire“) and has stayed active with collaborations, including joining Kaytranada and Robert Glasper for their respective albums.
