Eric Roberson is back with a sweet new ballad, “You,” which he co-wrote with Brett “Bdubb” Baker.
Arriving just in time for Valentine’s Day, “You” is a beautiful ode to a significant other who makes you feel whole.
“You are not just U / You’re more my U / Would not have made it thru / One step without U / You’re my U / Without U there’s no us / U put the U in must / Like it must be love / That I found / Whenever U came around,” Roberson sings.
Regarding the song’s inspiration, Roberson shares: “The main focus is about finding someone who completes the missing parts about you. You can love anyone, but it feels different when you love the person truly meant for you.”
He continues, “Now the fun part is, this song is part of a story I am writing. The story is about a world-renowned poet, who is so infatuated with the art of words, it interferes with his love life. In this story, the song ‘You’ is actually a love story to the letter ‘U.’ Listen again and let me know what you think.”
“You” is the follow-up to Roberson’s previously shared tracks “Here For You,” “Just Don’t Hold It In,” “I Apologize” and “Things Meant For Me.”
It’s unclear if any or all of these songs will appear on a future project by Roberson. His last album, Lessons, was released in 2022. The 11-track offering included his “Lessons (Remix)” with Anthony Hamilton, Raheem DeVaughn and Kevin Ross.
On Feb. 10, Roberson will kick off his 30th anniversary tour at City Winery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
He will perform in cities across the U.S., including Washington, D.C., Detroit, Las Vegas and Nashville, before concluding June 30 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Tickets are on sale now at his official website.
