Rising R&B singer Destin Conrad has teamed up with Alex Isley for his new single “Same Mistake,” which they co-wrote the track with Astyn.
Produced by Louie Lastic, “Same Mistake” is a downcast ballad that captures the final moments of a relationship. In the opening verse, Conrad addresses an inconsistent love interest who seems to have only been interested in one thing.
“Why you always wanna play games? / Night time you’re mine, and daylight you act like you don’t even know my name,” he sings.
Isley appears in the second verse, singing from the perspective of someone who wasn’t seeking a lasting commitment. “The nighttime brings promises I can’t keep / Giving in is the one thing I don’t need,” she coos.
“Same Mistake” is Conrad’s first offering since releasing his SUBMISSIVE project via Above Ground Entertainment on Oct. 27, 2023. It’s unclear if “Same Mistake” is a standalone track or will appear on a future project.
On Feb. 4, Conrad will launch his headlining SUBMISSIVE Tour in Austin, Texas. He will make stops in Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Toronto, and Vancouver before concluding in Los Angeles on April 5.
Fellow rising singer Amaria will join Conrad as a supporting act. She released her latest single, “Day By Day,” last November, which she first premiered during her COLORS performance in September.
It’s been nearly two years since Isley released her last album, Marigold, with producer Jack Dine. The nine-track project included contributions from Robert Glasper (“Still Wonder“) and Bas (“On & On”).
Isley has been keeping busy since Marigold. In 2023, Isley teamed with producer and musician Terrace Martin for a joint project, I Left My Heart In Ladera. The EP debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Albums chart.
Before I Left My Heart In Ladera, Isley joined her father, Ernie Isley, on a cover of The Isley Brothers’ “Brown Eyed Girl.” The song was released in honor of Father’s Day.
She also collaborated with SiR on the Glasper-helmed “Back To Love” from the season two soundtrack of Run the World, an original series on STARZ.
