Chloe Bailey to Star in New Horror Movie ‘Goons’

R&B

Chloe Bailey, also known as Chlöe, has been cast in Goons, a horror film set in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Per Deadline, Michael Rainey Jr. of the Power universe will also co-star in the film, directed by Gerard McMurray, who also directed The First Purge.

Goons is currently in production under New Fear Unlocked Productions, the recently launched division for Confluential Films, led by Founder and CEO Tommy Oliver.

The new studio is focused on delivering “bold, elevated culturally specific horror films from creators of color.”

“I can’t wait for audiences to see what Gerard and I are coming up with the kick-ass squad we’ve assembled. I also couldn’t be more excited to kick off New Fear Unlocked with this film from such a talented director,” said Oliver.

McMurray added, “I’m beyond excited to direct a film in the horror genre. Goons is a lover letter to my hometown of New Orleans, and a deeply personal story for me. Producing this film along with Confluential/New Fear Unlocked shows the power of Black storytellers with a collaborative spirit.”

Confluential Films is providing total funding for Goons, which does not have a logline at this time. An official premiere date for the upcoming horror flick also has not been announced yet.

Bailey has had an exciting year in film. In June, she starred in The Exorcism, directed by Joshua John Miller, and Peacock’s Praise This in April 2023 before being cast in Goons.

In other news, Chlöe released her sophomore album, Trouble in Paradise, on Aug. 9 via Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. The project’s lead single, “FYS,” was unveiled in March and its follow-up, “Boy Bye,” arrived a month later.

Chlöe says about Trouble in Paradise, “This project is about writing away my troubles in paradise. The water and the brewing storm symbolize my emotions and how it changes like the weather. I wanted this project to feel fun, and even though there are ups and downs, it’s a fun, wild ride like a summer fling: unpredictable, exciting, and new.”

Trouble in Paradise features appearances from her sister Halle Bailey, Anderson .Paak, Jeremih, Ty Dolla $ign, and YG Marley.

Chlöe’s new era follows In Pieces, her debut album released in March 2023. That album was featured on Rated R&B’s 25 Best R&B Albums of 2023 list.
