Bryson Tiller has teamed with rising rapper Lola Brooke for her new single “You,” produced by Khris Riddick-Tynes and Lil Ju.
Timed perfectly for the cozy fall season, “You” is a sultry rap/sung collaboration reminiscent of Foxy Brown’s 1996 classic “Get Me Home” featuring Blackstreet. On the track, Brooke trades her hard-hitting raps for a softer, intimate flow as she narrates an intimate moment with her partner.
“I’m a badass Brooklyn brown skin bitch / And I love a hood n*gga with some toxic d*ck / Nothing but some socks, beef and brocs in it / Have me walking all crooked in my Crocs and shit,” Brooke raps.
Tiller appears on the hook, singing, “I’m yours for the summer / Wanna drink until we drunk? / I’m choosin’ you, baby / Things I wanna do to you, baby.”
Speaking on the song’s inspiration, Brooke exclusively tells Rated R&B, “I had to go big on this the Brooklyn way! I channeled my inner soft girl with a twist (laughs), but that balance is needed. There’s more that meets the eyes and ears with me, and Fox is someone who paved the way for girls like me, so knowing that adds to the specialness of it all.”
Brooke adds, “Working with Bryson on this was great. I’m a fan of his as well, so that was a full-circle moment. It feels great to know that we got one that’s being received so well by our fans.”
“You” arrives with a glamour video directed by Samuel Mcknight, which can be watched below.
In April, Brooke, along with fellow rapper Lady London, appeared on Ciara’s “Da Girls (Girls Mix),” a remix of her self-empowerment anthem.
“Lola and Lady London are special,” said Ciara. “They each bring a unique star quality to everything they do. From the tone of their voices to the fire verses, they spoke life into this record for all da girls around the world.”
“You” is Tiller’s second collaboration of 2023. In February, he linked with Victoria Monét for a duet version of her song “We Might Even Be Falling In Love.”
Earlier this month, Tiller released a dance-pop track, “Down Like That,” from Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie soundtrack.
Tiller’s last official single, “Outside,” was released in September 2022 via RCA Records. It was dubbed the lead single from Tiller’s album that was slated to arrive last fall.
Circling back to Brooke, the emerging rapper is nominated for Best Breakthrough Hip Hop Artist at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards. Brooke’s nomination comes months after her viral single “Don’t Play With It,” featuring Billy B, received a gold award from the RIAA for selling over 500,000 equivalent units.
