Blast Worship: Type: Armor Unit

Where they from?
Belgium. Due to travel plans, I am writing this entry exactly two hour before the Chiefs and Eagles play in the Super Bowl. Because of this I have to guess what will happen in the big game. OK, so here it goes: Wow! I can’t believe the Kansas City Chiefs are the first team to threepeat in the Super Bowl era! Congratulations to them and to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift on the marriage proposal! What a historic day for everyone involved!

Why the hype?
Ah, what a delightful gem to stumble upon so early in the year of our lord, 2025. Type: Armor Unit is a one man project from Owen Swerts of Days of Desolation fame. The debut album ‘Revolutions in Saecula’ is in fact a deep sci-fi concept album set in the distant future about two freedom fighters who are struggling to resist a cabal of evil technofascists attempting to subjigate their star system. Musically the offering is rather brilliant, combining the most engaging elements of Gridlink, Sugar Wounds and Psudoku to create a shimmering piece of material that is equal parts starry-eyed gorgeous and pure fucking GRIND. This is the sound of high-concept grindcore being pushed into new and brilliant directions.

Latest Release?
Revolutions in Saecula, self-released. It may only be February but I have a very strong feeling this one is gonna end up on my year end best of list. The album’s second track ‘Cutlass & Needle’ is one of the catchiest grind tunes I have heard in a long while and the album’s material is all masterfully executed. Could 2025 finally be the year of sci-fi grind? Please make it so, my Warhammer 40K figurines are catching dust in my closet.
