Blast Worship: Blight Worms – Decibel Magazine

Metal

Where they from?
Canberra, Australia. I’m no economist but I do have one little question: Destroying the global economy, that’s a bad thing, correct? Just wondering. You see, this is the kind of shit I’m forced to write about now that my hockey team isn’t making the playoffs.

Why the hype?
Australian grindcore, let’s talk about it. The Aussie scene probably doesn’t get the respect it deserves in the blast beat arena and I’m not quite sure why as the land down under has pretty consistently churned out high quality grind and powerviolence acts for the last 35 or so years. Such as this group: Blight Worms, who share a lot of musical DNA with fellow countrymen Shackles in that both groups conjure up a deviant approach to grind/pv that highlights some of the more thuggish and knuckle-dragging elements that we here in the states just love. That’s just a very long way of saying this band sounds PISSED OFF and want you to know it. Put a tarif on that, motherfucker.

Latest release?
Split EP with Dark Horse, Grindhead Records. Normally I’m not too keen on staccato picking in grind as it can get real unintelligible real quick but I must say it’s really tastefully down here and adds to the overall evil vibe of the five songs on display here. This will make a nice soundtrack as I watch the global economy disintegrate even further!
