Berhana’s new single, “Like a Habit,” co-produced by Danny McKinnon and Mike Irish, highlights the toxicity of his partner’s love.
On the low-key track, Berhana finds himself going through the motions with an unstable interest whom he believes might benefit from keeping things strictly platonic.
“You try to break me like a habit / Now with the damages I can’t tell the truth / You’re moving crazy, so erratic / Wasting my time, oh, hard to say,” he sings.
Berhana’s new single comes with a music video directed by Julia Baylis and Sam Guest. In the video, Berhana is driving a classic SUV with his friends packed into every seat in front of a green-screen backdrop.
“Like a Habit” is Berhana’s fourth song released this year and his second from his forthcoming album, Amén: የዘላን ህልም, which stands for Amén: A Nomad’s Dream. He preceded his next work with “Gone (Abebe Bikila),” a song inspired by Ethiopian marathon runner Abebe Bikila.
There is no release date for Berhana’s Amén: የዘላን ህልም. It is set to release sometime this fall via EGT Recordings. This label powered his debut album, Han, in 2019.
Canadian hitmaker Pomo produced the majority of Han, which featured songs such as “I Been” featuring Crush and “Lucky Strike.”
Other tracks have followed Han, including a remix version of “Golden” featuring Mereba and “Weep, No More.” Berhana confirmed the latter track, along with “Sundays,” will not appear on his upcoming full-length album.
Berhana plans to play shows in major cities including Los Angeles, New York City, and Washington D.C. Specific show dates have not yet been announced.
