After months of anticipation, rising British singer and songwriter Arlo Parks has released her second album, My Soft Machine, via Transgressive Records.
My Soft Machine, which gets its title inspiration from a Joanna Hogg film, consists of 12 tracks. It features several pre-album singles, including the lead track “Weightless.”
According to Parks, “Weightless” was intentionally made to be “very bare and very honest.”
Parks released four additional singles after that, which include “Impurities” and “Pegasus” featuring Phoebe Bridgers. These two tracks have official music videos that enhance the overall experience of listening to the songs.
“Devotion,” the current focus track from My Soft Machine, also has an accompanying visual. The Joel Barney and Ali Raymond-directed video arrived two days ahead of the album. It was made with a band in a freight elevator.
My Soft Machine is Parks’ first full-length album since releasing her debut album, Collapsed In Sunbeams, which came out in 2021.
“This record is life through my lens, through my body — the mid-20s anxiety, the substance abuse of friends around me, the viscera of being in love for the first time, navigating PTSD and grief and self-sabotage and joy, moving through worlds with wonder and sensitivity — what it’s like to be trapped in this particular body,” explained Parks of My Soft Machine.
Parks will support My Soft Machine with tons of performances later this summer and fall. All dates are abroad, covering the U.K. and Europe territories. Get more information about tickets at arloparksofficial.com.
