Tank Breaks Charlie Wilsons Adult R&B Record With Yes

Hip Hop

Tank earned his 12th Adult R&B Airplay No. 1 with “Yes,” passing Charlie Wilson after a comeback shaped by hearing loss.

Tank passed Charlie Wilson for the most No. 1 hits by a male artist on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart as “Yes” became his 12th chart-topper.

The single took the lead on the chart dated October 17, ending the two singers’ tie at 11. Billboard confirmed the new record in its latest chart rundown. Alicia Keys still holds the overall lead with 14 No. 1s.

Wilson had reached 11 with “Keep Me In Love” in October 2025. Tank caught up this year when “Control” topped the chart, giving him a share of the male record before “Yes” moved him ahead.

The win added a new high to the rollout of “EXPERIENCE”, which arrived through R&B Money/BMG. “Yes” draws on Floetry’s “Say Yes,” bringing a song from an earlier R&B era into his new album.

The track also led Mediabase’s U.S. R&B chart for the week of October 10, rising from No. 3. It had spent 13 weeks on that chart, giving the singer another radio win as the new album reached listeners.

Getting back to this point meant working through a health scare that had shaken his career. Tank disclosed his hearing loss in 2021, telling fans he was losing hearing in his right ear and struggling with sound in his left. He also described dizziness and trouble walking a straight line while he sought treatment.

He later billed his 2022 album “R&B Money” as his last. In a recent Men’s Health interview, Tank recalled how hearing loss and vertigo had disrupted his life. Medication affected his sleep and eating, and he struggled to work out.

“I didn’t recognize myself. I couldn’t hear myself,” Tank said. “First time I was ever out of shape in life.”

He discussed rebuilding his fitness and confidence to return to the stage.

Tank had already built years of radio success before his health scare. His hit “When We” had spent a year on the charts by 2018, when he spoke with the Recording Academy backstage at Essence Festival about his outlook.

“As long as you’re putting in the work, at some point…there will be a harvest,” Tank told the Recording Academy.
