Survivor fans will always remember where they were when they watched Brady Booker chop off a piece of his thumb and then saw a closeup shot of said severed piece on the machete onSurvivor 51 Episode 2. The professional wrestler has now revealed what the crew did to preserve the severed piece after the fact, and he gave an update on the injury, noting that there is more to be revealed in upcoming episodes ofSurvivor 51.

Brady was cutting wood at the Toka tribe camp in Episode 2 when he accidentally nicked his thumb, cutting off a small but not insignificant chunk of the top corner. It bled a lot, but the sight of the severed piece stuck on the machete was almost worse. Survivor‘s medical team was sent in to evaluate and treat the wound, and Brady was terrified that he would be medically evacuated from the game. But he was given the all clear after the thumb was bandaged and he was given antibiotics.

Brady told The TMZ Podcast more details about the gruesome moment and shared an update on how the injury felt during filming, saying that his thumb is doing “good” but to expect more details in upcoming episodes.

He showed off his necklace containing the severed piece encased in resin on Instagram after Episode 2 aired on September 30 (see below).

The 27-year-old revealed thatSurvivor‘s art department made the immunity idol-esque necklace. It features his severed skin and nail as a charm and is surrounded by beads.

Brady said that once he realized he could still move his thumb, his “internal turmoil” was, “OK, how do I stop this bleeding and how do I get the producer to look at me like he wants me to stay,” he told The TMZ Podcast.

The idea of being sent home from the game early because of an injury gave him “dark and scary” thoughts, Brady said, and he joked that he experienced “the five stages of grief.”

He was grateful for the opportunity to stay in the game.

Brady’s thumb was in constant, throbbing pain during the first challenge after the injury, but he pushed through to test his mettle. He laughs at the whole ordeal now, saying, “If you’re gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough.” The former football player said he’s had seven surgeries in the past, so he’s used to injuries and managing pain. He also admitted that he has a “sick” fascination with testing how much his body can withstand.

In his “Field Notes” for Episode 2,Survivorhost Jeff Probst commended Brady’s commitment to the game.

“The crazy part is that even though Brady was in obvious pain, with blood pouring out, he was still aware enough to ask his tribemates to try and find the tip of the thumb in the dirt!” Probst wrote. “They found it and put it in a shell to save for Medical.”

“Medical then arrived and dealt with his injury. No risk of having to pull him from the game,” he continued. “Brady had a great sense of humor as he pleased with our medical team to wrap the piece of thumb and put it in a cooler to save for him for after the show so he could take it home.”

“Talk about a one of a kindSurvivor souvenir,” Probst added. “Most players are happy with a treemail.”
