Nicki Minaj urges young people to vote on Lara Trump’s show after saying she lacked U.S. citizenship, while a SAVE ruling fuels debate.
Nicki Minaj is urging young people to vote, even though she previously said she is not a U.S. citizen and cannot cast a ballot herself.
Fox News is promoting Minaj’s Saturday interview with Lara Trump using the words “Vote red.” In the preview released ahead of the broadcast.
“Now is not the time to think that your voice will not be heard. Your voice will not only be heard, but your voice is very necessary right now for the country and for the world,” Minaj says. She adds, “This is your country, this is your world…and Vote red.”

During a 2024 livestream, Minaj told viewers she was not a U.S. citizen despite living here for many years.
This January, she said she was finalizing citizenship paperwork after displaying a Trump Gold Card, but she has not publicly confirmed that she became a citizen.
Federal elections require voters to be U.S. citizens, making Minaj’s previously stated status ironic considering her new buddy Donald Trump’s latest move.
A Supreme Court order allows his administration to resume expanded citizenship checks using a federal database, ina 6-3 rulingon the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements program, or SAVE.
The justices paused a lower-court ruling that blocked the Trump administration’s expanded version of the system while an appeal continues.
Originally used to check eligibility for public benefits, SAVE now includes Social Security records and allows officials to search voter information in bulk. The administration says those changes help state and local officials identify people who are not eligible to vote.
Voting rights groups argue that the expanded system puts private information at risk and can wrongly flag eligible voters. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s dissent said the majority overlooked harm to lawful voters; Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan joined her.
Jackson cited findings that one Texas voter unknowingly lost her registration and two others had to prove citizenship to remain registered. The Supreme Court’s order does not remove federal limits on broad voter roll removals close to Election Day, though officials may still make individual checks.
Despite this, Nicki Minaj has made her support for Trump clear during a recent appearance on Laura Ingraham’s Fox News show. Ingraham asked what Minaj would tell people who criticized her work with Trump’s administration.
“Absolutely nothing. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with this administration and to work with President Trump,” she said.
Minaj described Trump as someone she could relate to and said his manner made her feel heard. “I just love him,” she said during the interview covered by AllHipHop. “I’m not going to ever make excuses for that because I don’t know why I should.”
She also joined the administration’s Million Dollar Pitch Competition as a judge alongside investor Grant Cardone and Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia. Minaj has said that criticism of her relationship with Trump makes her more determined to support him.
Her past statements help explain why Fox is promoting the Lara Trump interview with a partisan message. The available preview, however, shows Minaj encouraging participation; the full conversation has yet to air.
