On Sunday, September 6, Eden, 95, took to Instagram to set the record straight.
“It’s okay, everyone! I’m okay!” she declared. “Oh, my goodness, there has been a bit of miscommunication. I’m not suffering from an illness; my doctor very recently prescribed a brand-new medication that turned out to have some nasty side effects. Due to the discomfort, my doctor ordered me to remain at home until it can be sorted out.”
Eden continued, “What awful timing for this to happen! My deepest appreciation to everyone for the concern. This is just a speed bump! I expect to be out and about as soon as I’m given the go-ahead! Again, my love and thanks to everyone for all the concern.”
On Saturday, September 5, the nonagenarian was forced to cancel her appearance at the Cinecon Classic Film Festival in Los Angeles.
“We’re sorry to share that, due to a sudden illness, Barbara Eden will no longer be able to appear in person at Cinecon tonight,” Cinecon announced via Facebook. “Barbara is deeply regretful that she had to cancel at the last minute, as she had been very much looking forward to seeing everyone and celebrating with us.”
Eden’s message came after fans expressed concern over her dropping out of the event at the last-minute.
In addition to being best known for playing the titular character in I Dream of Jeannie — which aired for five seasons from 1965 to 1970 — Eden is known for her roles in films like All Hands on Deck(1961), she starred in films like Flaming Star(1960),Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea(1961), andHarper Valley P.T.A. (1978).
