Listen, no matter how many times you try and say you won’t buy another limited edition variant of a record you already have at least two copies of – you always will. There’s something about our mammal brain that makes us go, ‘pretty shapez and colorz’ whenever what should be a black LP is in fact any other shade but black. Add glitter, transparency, splatter, designs –shit, pictures? It’s fucking game over. May as well open up a credit card just for vinyl purchases.
And we know –as much as you try to convince your significant other, if you even have one (we’ve noticed that seems to be a rarity with audiophiles), you really don’t actually need it. But it feels good to buy it, receive it in the mail or pick it up at the shop, bring it home, play it exactly once, and put on your shelves, along with all the other one-spin records.
So, here are five releases that made even me, dead in my grave, go ‘pReTtY,’ and consider taking out a second mortgage, because we all know, debt doesn’t actually die with us, right? On this Dropocalypse Friday…
Allt – Ataraxia
You’re telling me, I can get a prog metalcore record in silver – if anything, that sounds about right. I’d completely expect an alt prog band or whatever to want their obscure instrumental styled tunes to be visually represented by a vinyl that is more reminiscent of a flying saucer than anything in their people’s music room (let’s be real here, childhood bedroom).

Convulse –Reflections
Okay, now, we’ve got both silver and splatter? To be fair, the corporate overlords need to keep us financially drained for their own personal benefit, so shit, they may as well give us things that look pretty then, huh? However, I’m not too sure which corporate overlords think that many Convulse fans really know what pretty looks like.

Future Palace –Resurgence
Now, for a personal favorite of mine for the week purely based on the fact that it is a stunning blue and the album artwork is absolutely stunning. I don’t know who Future Palace is, or what they sound like. But, there’s a pearl on there that’s as shiny as my smooth pea brain and my pea brain likes it. Don’t even get my brain started on the rainbows. Rainbows are always a winner.
Blue is such a nice summer color.
Iconic – II
Right, I know I said silver vinyl is cool, but I think by album two the appeal is lost. However, don’t let that discourage you from ordering the new record as they have a cool ass picture CD for sale, too. Never, ever underestimate late-stage capitalism and all that it is capable of. They’ve designed our brains to be this short-sighted, at this point, just accept they know how we think at this point.

The Rolling Stones – Jealous Lover
And just when you think you have them figured out –bam! Electric green. And its the Rolling Stones, though I’m not sure that’s nearly as strong of a pull as a bright, fluorescent green print for a 10″ titled, Jealous Lover. Now, that’s some top tier marketing. Can’t sell it on the music? Sell it on concept. Something the Rolling Stones know better than probably anybody.
