The case came to a satisfying end in The Rainmaker‘s finale last October, but for those hoping for more to come from this book-to-screen world, there’s good news.
USA Network has renewed its hit drama series for a second season, and details about what to expect are quickly coming into focus.
The first season of the John Grisham adaptation series followed Rudy Baylor (Milo Callaghan), a brand-new lawyer, as he took on the case of the century against a major healthcare corporation on behalf of his client, a grieving mother who was convinced her son’s death was the hospital’s fault. In the process, he had to go toe-to-toe with his own ex-girlfriend, Sarah Plankmore (Madison Iseman), and the man who’d fired him on his first day, Leo Drummond (John Slattery), on behalf of the ragtag team assembled by Bruiser (Lana Parrilla). All the while, they dealt with a serial killer on the loose, a neighbor’s abusive husband, and nonstop twists in the courtroom proceedings.
So now that the show has been renewed, what will the second season of the series entail? TV Insider talked to the cast and creatives to get the scoop.
Will The Rainmaker Season 2 happen?
Yes! USA Network announced on October 23, 2025, that the show will return for a second season. It will air in the fall of 2026 on the network.
In a statement, the president of entertainment at Versant, Val Boreland, said, “The verdict is in —The Rainmaker is returning for Season 2 on USA Network. Along with our brilliant showrunner Michael Seitzman and our partners at Lionsgate and Blumhouse, we’re thrilled to build on the momentum and deliver another compelling chapter of this gripping legal drama for our viewers.”
The renewal news is perhaps not a surprise. The ratings were very strong at the start of the series, with 16 million viewers, and it became the most-watched new series for the network in years throughout its run. USA revealed that across all nine episodes, it averaged 1.3 million viewers, and the finale was the most-viewed freshman series in seven years.
What will happen in The Rainmaker Season 2?
The official description for Season 2 tells us, “Rudy, Deck, and Bruiser face old adversaries and new ones in a case where the lives of hundreds of children hang in the balance, and where winning might be just as dangerous as losing.”

Who will star in The Rainmaker Season 2?
Joining the cast for The Rainmaker Season 2 is Austin Nichols as Bruiser’s ex-husband, who, according to Deadline, is a minor league baseball coach who’s involved in a dangerous conspiracy. Plus, Merle Dandridge has joined as Amanda Vonn, an attorney who “provides a fresh gateway to power” for Sarah and is “a new kind of adversary” to Rudy, according to Deadline. According to Variety, the cast for Season 2 will also include Richard Kind as Larry Shifflet, father to Deck Shifflet; Kevin Ryan as Liam Donnelly, a corporate vice president with a secret agenda who faces off with Rudy and Deck; and Asher DeLand as Victor Suffredes, a kid with a troubled past.
Also expected to return are Milo Callaghan, John Slattery, Lana Parrilla, Madison Iseman, P.J. Byrne, and Karen Bryson.
