For roughly a decade and a half, Slipknot fans have wondered one thing: what the fuck is Look Outside Your Window and when is it coming out? Well, we finally have a release date and it’s coming up pretty soon — just don’t expect it to have Slipknot’s name emblazoned on it.
Set to be released as a self-titled project, Look Outside Your Window will be released exclusively on vinyl for Record Store Day, or April 18 for those that don’t pay attention to that sort of thing. Today’s announcement finally puts to bed the “will they, won’t they” shenanigans that’s led to missed deadlines and members threatening to release the damn thing themselves on the internet.
Look Outside Your Window was recorded during the 2008 All Hope Is Gone sessions, but it’s really more like a Slipknot side project featuring M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan, Corey Taylor, Jim Root, and DJ Sid Wilson. In the past, it’s been described as having a sort of Radiohead sound, so if you’re thinking it’s gonna sound like anything these guys have done before, you’re going to be disappointed.
The entire project is described by the four men involved as such:
“We knew we were heading down a different creative path, entirely apart from Slipknot, and we followed it eagerly. We called the project Look Outside Your Window as a tribute to this experimental spirit.
“Created during a chaotic time in our shared history, the songs were born late at night, in a house on a farm in the middle of nowhere. Peering out through a big picture window, we wondered about what, or who, might be lurking outside. That sense of the unknown seeped into the music itself.
“There were no rules; ideas could come from anywhere: subtle drum loops, bits of organ or abstract guitar noise, even samples of frogs or crickets. Guided by emotion and instinct, we let the sounds themselves point the way.”
Once released, the Record Store Day vinyl pressing of Look Outside Your Window will feature a splatter vinyl with a die-cut jacket, purple foil details, purple flood inside the jacket, and embossed text on the back.
Now that this officially coming out, we can all now get over this thing and move on to the next Slipknot release.
