The key to M*A*S*H‘s unprecedented television success was its ability to remarkably infuse the terrors of war with humor. That trait was on display in this 1982 Halloween episode titled “Trick or Treatment.” The members of the 4077, decked out in their costumes, are preparing to attend a Halloween party when wounded soldiers begin arriving by the dozen. One man, who has already been pronounced dead, later is discovered to be alive and makes a full recovery. This leads to many quips about the “living dead,” fitting in with the Halloween theme. Throw in a Marine with a billiard ball stuck in his mouth, along with a Jeep crashing through a chicken coup, and you’ve got the ingredients for a classic M*A*S*H episode.
