Wow. Holy shit. Great googly moogly. All current and future thrash bands — take some fucking notes. Because if you want to blow minds and get people stoked for your new album, you do what Testament just did. You come out swinging and you hit as hard as you can, which is exactly what they’ve done by dropping “Infanticide A.I.”, the lead single off their newly announced record Para Bellum.
Set for release on October 10 via Nuclear Blast, Para Bellum is the band’s follow up to their 2020 offering Titans Of Creation and their first with new drummer Chris Dovas. And honestly, I now understand why Chuck Billy wasn’t worried when Dave Lombardo was replaced by this guy. Holy shit, man.
But I digress. This new single “Infanticide A.I.” is punishing as all get out. Right from the first second, it’s all soaring guitars and a bit of the band’s dark side before you’re immediately bludgeoned by blast beats and a riff that’s sure to inspire circle pits the world over. Then it all settles into the rhythmic pocket you’d expect from Testament — it’s all fury and precision, buoyed by Billy’s signature bellows. This is Testament in 2025. This is the sound and look of a band that’s been doing this thing for almost four decades and showing no sign of stopping.
Speaking of the forthcoming album, Billy credited a lot of it to guitarist Eric Peterson’s skill as a songwriter.
“The new album Para Bellum consists of some fast, heavy and melodic tunes. Once again Peterson has found a way to keep the song writing fresh and modern sounding. It’s gonna be hard to choose what songs to play live cause to many to choose from.”
