In the immediate aftermath of ex-Mastodon guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds’ death, folks all over the music world are left reeling. To have such an incredible talent taken from the world at the young age of 51 is incredibly difficult to fathom. It has to be even harder for the men he shared a stage with for 25 years as members of the Atlanta-based progressive metal outfit.
In a joint statement posted on social media, the surviving members of Mastodon expressed their unimaginable grief, having learned that their long-time brother in arms was dead.
“We are in a state of unfathomable sadness and grief… last night Brent Hinds passed away as a result of a tragic accident. We are heartbroken, shocked, and still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we’ve shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of so many. Our hearts are with Brent’s family, friends, and fans. At this time, we please ask that you respect everyone’s privacy during this difficult time.
“RIP Brent.”
According to a report byAtlanta News First, Hinds was riding his motorcycle last night when he was struck by an SUV thatfailed to yieldwhile attempting to make a left-handed turn. When first responders arrived at the scene, Hinds was found unresponsive and was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene by medical officials.
Despite their long history together, Mastodon and Hinds had recently been going through a very public spat. Hinds was let go from the band back in March. Though the band tried to make it sound like the decision t split up was amicable, Hinds however, shed some light on the idea that he didn’t feel very ‘kumbaya’ about the whole thing.
In recent weeks, Hinds had criticized his former bandmates’ character and their ability to play well, among other things. It’s unsure if both parties would ever get back together. Sadly, that will never be the case now.
