Josh Levi Wants to ‘Hold On’ to Love in New Song: Listen

R&B

Josh Levi puts his heart on the line in his new single “Hold On.”

Over an atmospheric backdrop, driven by syncopated snares reminiscent of a Timbaland production, Levi finds himself in a vulnerable position as a love interest he pursues seems to be distracted by others. Instead of giving up, he seeks clarity amid the uncertainty.

“You go by all your rules, girl, you’re so unruly / You bringing up your exes, got me confused / You rather lie to me than tell the truth,” he croons.

“‘Hold On’ is about giving your best shot and trying to hold on to something you’re unsure about,” Levi explains. “It’s a split conversation with myself and someone I care about— that moment where you catch the mixed signals, but you also catch yourself before you let someone mess with your dignity. This song is for the people that can’t hold back how they feel because they’ve learned not to be taken for granted.”

“Hold On” is the third track shared from Levi’s upcoming debut album, HYDRAULIC, which drops Oct. 10 via Raedio/Atlantic Records. He launched the era with the BEAM-assisted “Feel The Ba$$ (Prelude)” and followed up with the Destiny’s Child-sampled “Don’t Go.”

Regarding HYDRAULIC, Levi explained, “Love, like hydraulics, is a system that lifts, dips, and demands care and maintenance. It reflects the ups and downs in life. Love can also be seen as a finely tuned system of emotions, like a hydraulic car. It soars in moments of joy and dips in the lows, but it takes constant effort to maintain. Similar to a mechanic, I continue to keep myself functional even when the system – my heart/mind – breaks down so that I can always keep moving.”
