Ella Mai has returned with her new single “Tell Her” via 10 Summers/Interscope Records.
On the Mustard production, Mai wants assurance from her partner that he can profess his love and devotion to her, especially as his ex keeps crossing boundaries.
“But if your ex think she can call your phone / You better tell her you love me, put no one above me,” she sings before interpolating lines from Destiny’s Child’s “Say My Name.”
“Tell Her” follows Mai’s EP3, which was released as a surprise to celebrate her 30th birthday on Nov. 3, 2024.
The three-track offering included the heartfelt ballad “Little Things,” which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B Digital Song Sales chart. The other two tracks, “Hearts On Deck” and “One of These,” debuted at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
3 was Mai’s first project since her 2022 LP, Heart On My Sleeve, which debuted at No. 2 onBillboard’s Top R&B Albums chart. It included the No. 1 single “DFMU,” as well as the popular tracks “Leave You Alone” and “How” featuring Roddy Ricch.
In early 2023, Mai released Heart On My Sleeve (Deluxe Edition), ahead of herHeart On My Sleeve Tour, which included three bonus tracks “2 O’Clock,” “This Is” and “Our Song.”
