Wylde joined Ozzy’s band in 1987, writing the first chapter in a Cinderella story that began with him landing an audition after hearing about Jake E. Lee’s ouster onThe Howard Stern Show.His initial tenure, which lasted from ’87 to ’95, includes some of Osbourne’s most highly regarded work — particularly theNo More Tearsalbum, released in 1991. Following that LP (and Osbourne’s first “final tour”), Wylde departed to focus on his own projects, including his short-lived band Pride & Glory and the more enduring Black Label Society, but he returned for a couple of brief stints in the ’90s. They were followed by an eight-year run from 2001-’09, and then another return that started in 2017. He’s also launched a Black Sabbath tribute band named, you guessed it, Zakk Sabbath.
