As evidenced by the “band” photo provided here to accompany the premiere of Novarupta’s new single, “The Bullet Shines Before Impact,” this Swedish act is a “collective concept,” with multi-instrumentalist Alex Stjernfeldt as its ringleader of sorts. Stjernfeldt has been the one constant (along with artist Arjen Kunnen) on a four-album journey that started with 2019’s Pyroclastic Flows and is coming to a close with the upcoming (and final) Astral Sands album. As on previous Novarupta releases, a different vocalist is featured on each album track, with Fireside vocalist Kristofer Åström contributing to the moody post-metal, gothy track we’re premiering here.
