Matlock Season 1 Episode 6 Spoilers

TV

The Matlock writers just won’t give Kathy Bate’s Madeline a break. They’re going to end up giving that sweet old lady a heart attack before she has a chance to get justice for her daughter.

First, there was the matter of someone recognizing Matty at the end of “Claws,” and now it seems like her heart is about to be shredded by an emotional whirlwind.

The promo for Matlock Season 1 Episode 6 lays out clear details of the case the team will be working on, and it’s bad enough to bring out Olympia’s sincerely empathetic side.

Olympia is one of those characters that makes you nervous when they are suddenly too nice. My first thought would be, “Oh, God, how long do I have?”

One thing is for sure: the Matlock writers aren’t even trying to hide the correlation between the case-of-the-week format and Matty’s personal journey.

There’s certainly no point now that this incredible show has been picked up for another fantastic season.

You Know It’s Bad When Olympia Is Suggesting You Take A Mental Health Day

If you’ve kept up with the Matlock Season 1 reviews, then you’re well aware of the ongoing discussion that every episode features a case that connects to Matty on a personal level.

It was subtle at first and not altogether apparent due to the nature of the first batch of cases.

The first one in Matlock Season 1 Episode 1 dealt with a man getting justice after spending most of his life in prison for a crime he didn’t commit.

Granted, Matty connected with the key witness, but the case’s core spoke almost solely to a greater societal issue. However, there is no mistaking the clear connection this time.

In the last part of the promo, Olympia tells Matty, “This is a case about the loss of a child. You can sit this one out.” You know it’s bad when Olympia is suggesting you take a mental health day.

That works in Matty’s favor in a big way because then she can focus on her plan to take down Jacobs & Moore by pretending to keep herself busy in the archives.

Alas, that is not to be, because in the promo, Matty (Kathy Bates) can be heard responding to Olympia with, “I’d like to help the parents get justice.”

Oh, that, Matty. She’s just got too big of a heart to say no, damn it.

Matlock Must Have Love On The Brain

The official synopses for Matlock Season 1 Episode 6 reads: “As Olympia and Julian get a second shot at a case regarding a tragic death due to contaminated baby formula.

“Their past work on the investigation gives glimpses into what led to their divorce. Also, Matty’s overwhelming stress causes her to consider quitting.”

The hands behind Matlock threw everything at this episode, including the dang kitchen sink. I’ll be amazed if they fit Sarah and Kia’s budding flirtation-ship in.

Does Matty work at a law firm or a singles bar? Everyone has love on the brain. However, since Matlock Season 1 Episode 3, I have been saying that we needed to keep an eye on Julian.

The character has been ridiculously sweet and charming with Olympia, and we’re finally going to learn what caused the crack in their marriage — maybe even how Olympia and Elijah’s romance started.

Should Olympia try to make it work with Julian? They have kids and property together. They’ve also proven that there is nothing but love between them.

At the same time, the split may have been inevitable. Maybe whatever happened just expedited the end. In that regard, should Olympia try for a new future with Elijah?

Either way, someone is not going to be happy. However, if I were a betting man, I would put my money on Matty being the first to shed a tear in “Sixteen Steps.”

Madeline Matlock Can’t Catch A Break With These Cases

There’s no getting around the heaviest part of Matlock Season 1 Episode 6’s description. When there is a case of contaminated baby formula, there is a poor baby who drank that formula.

This will, by far, be the most triggering episode for Matty. How could it not be? This is about parents getting justice for the child they lost. It might as well be Matty suing the formula company.

Viewers have likely not forgotten Madeline’s little outburst in Matlock Season 1 Episode 5 when she defended Katya to Olympia.

Matty was literally brought to tears when she explained that Katya is someone’s daughter and should be treated with dignity and respect. How in the world will she handle a case that so closely mirrors her own?

On top of everything else, the description for “Sixteen Steps” also mentions that Madeline contemplates quitting due to stress. Absolutely not.

In previous reviews, I mentioned that there was only so much a septuagenarian can take, and it looks like the hands behind Matlock agree.

Honestly, there’s nothing to worry about because the series just received a renewal. Still, that doesn’t technically mean Matty needs to work at Jacobs & Moore.

Things got pretty heated between Edwin and Madeline in Matlock Season 1 Episode 4 because their plan affected their personal lives.

Giving Alfie a stable childhood was one thing, but now Matty could be facing a blow to her cover.

At the end of “Claws,” Matty makes a match on “Senior Sweeties” as part of her cover but is recognized as Madeline Kingston. If the promo is any indication, it may be more severe than expected.

The first thing heard in the promo is Matty saying, “Edwin, he actually found me.” It’s followed immediately by Olympia saying, “Who found you?” after having overheard Matty’s phone call.

It’s anyone’s guess where this takes place in the episode. If you read the Matlock Season 1 Episode 4 Spoilers, we discussed how Olympia referenced Jacobs & Moore as a “vipers’ nest.”

Having seen the episode, we know that the clip came from the end of that episode. In this instance, we could be seeing the same thing with Matty and Olympia.

Could Olympia be the first to figure out Matty’s secret? My money was on Bill (David Del Rio) and Sarah (Leah Lewis). Hell, I even thought Mrs. B could’ve been the one.

We’ll have plenty of time to consider it, as Matlock will be taking a little break after this episode and returning in December.

If this break is anything like the one after Matlock Season 1 Episode 1, audiences could be in store for another twist to mull over while we wait for this incredible series to return.
