Korn’s Jonathan Davis Joins His Son on New Hi I’m Ghost Track

Metal

I think I must be severely late to the party. Like mad late, because I had absolutely no idea that Jonathan Davis‘s son Nathan was a dubstep darling, making electronic beats while signed to Insomniac for a little while now under the moniker Hi I’m Ghost. Even though it is most definitely the opposite of what his dad makes in Korn, they’ve still found a way to share their love for music in a way that works for both of them, I guess. They’ve teamed up on Nathan’s new track “Dark Fantasy,” and you can listen to it below.

Nathan cutely describes that track as “dad & son dubstep,” a description I feel electronic music has probably never heard of before. I don’t think they have any competition on that, at least not yet. The track starts with a dark unraveling of underlying sounds and Jonathan Davis’s voice before a fair amount of discordant clanging and other aurally upsetting sounds of the sort come into play. And, because the whole point of dubstep apparently is the bass drop, there’s a heavy one before you even reach the middle of the track. Nathan leaves a lot of room for his father’s vocals to be at the center, surrounding it with loud clamor when it’s time to interrupt those brief moments of vocal respite.

About working with his son, Jonathan posted on his Instagram story how he “had so much fun making this song with my son.” We love that for him.

Will there be more father/son dubstep endeavors from the Davis pair? We don’t know yet, but this gives us quite a bit to ingest in the meantime.
