Fatman Scoop’s cause of death has been revealed

Late rap veteran Fatman Scoop‘s cause of death has been revealed.

The rapper – real name Isaac Freeman – died late last month (August 30) after collapsing on stage while performing in Connecticut. He was 56 years old.

Following the collapse, Mayor Lauren Garrett confirmed on social media that Freeman was being transported to a hospital by ambulance. The rapper’s tour manager DJ Pure Cold later confirmed in an Instagram post that Freeman had died.

Now, in a new report from the Associated Press, Connecticut’s medical examiner’s office has confirmed that Fatman Scoop died of heart disease. The rapper also had hypertension and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, a heart condition caused by plaque buildup in the arterial walls.

Following the news of his death, several rappers and musicians paid their respects to the late veteranMissy Elliott – who Freeman worked with for the 2005 Grammy Award-winning song ‘Lose Control’ – shared an Instagram reel with the caption: “Fatman Scoop’s VOICE & energy have contributed to SO MANY songs that made people feel HAPPY & want to DANCE for over [two] decades every time you hear them. His IMPACT is HUGE & will be NEVER be forgotten.”

Nicki Minaj posted a photo of Fatman Scoop to her Instagram Stories and wrote: “To this iconic, charismatic, endearing Hip Hop legend. May your soul rest in perfect peace. You brought so much happiness to this world. May the Lord reward you.”

Besides Missy Elliot, Fatman Scoop had collaborated with a number of artists over the years including Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston. He also appeared on Mariah Carey’s hit single ‘It’s Like That’, which landed her a Grammy nod for best female pop vocal performance.

The music video for the rapper’s latest song with Dyce Payso, ‘Let It Go’, was released just hours before his Connecticut concert.
