Quebec death metallers Insurrection just dropped a video for “The Gathering,” the first banger from their upcoming album Obsolescence, out September 13.

“The first time we played this song, we knew we had to play it live in front of people,” the band say. “In fact, we felt so strongly about that, that we started opening our set with this song. It has a massive, heavy beginning, and gradually builds up to a fast, double-bass crescendo, only to drop again to a pummeling conclusion. Lyrically, the song is very dark, and has a ritualistic style to it, although the words themselves are actually telling a story of acceptance.”

From the slow, chugging intro to the fast, thrashy chorus, this is pure, unadulterated death metal with plenty of doomy and thrashy elements to keep people on their toes. The band have been at it for 20 years, and this song is proof that they aren’t slowing down any time soon.

The song starts with a slow chugging intro, kind of like “Scourge of Iron” by Cannibal Corpse. As the song goes on, it evolves in speed and intensity and then comes crashing down again at the end with that same chugging into. Insurrection has been making music for the metal community for over 20 years. To them, it felt right to start this album with an ode to the scene that they love, and have been part of for most of their lives.
