If you’re a goregrind (or noise, or power electronics, or powerviolence, or death metal) freak, Barely Breathing III is the festival to be at later this month, August 17 and 18. Going down once again at Mr. Beery’s in Bethpage (Long Island), New York, Barely Breathing is headlined by Canadian gore stalwarts Archagathus and Texas grinders Nyctophagia, plus a reunion set by Buckshot Facelift (members of Artificial Brain) and a laundry list of bands with unreadable logos.
“Barely Breathing started as a way to encourage extreme music acts to consider playing Long Island during their East Coast tours,” says Jon Santiago, festival co-organizer and owner/operator of Syrup Head Recordings. “Both myself and Brian [of Baby Chico Records] are insanely passionate about our local scene, and we want this festival to be a showcase of how crazy we can get.”
Adds Brian:
“It feels like Long Islanders are always going out to Brooklyn and NYC for shows, while that’s never reciprocated for our gigs. We encourage our friends in those scenes to take the train out for this, I promise the short trip to Mr. Beery’s will be worth it.”
