Expanding beyond the mourning of their 2020 release, Dream Griever, chamber doom provocateurs Bleakheart are back with Silver Pulse—a lush, melancholic suite that supports a lyrical journey into a personal journey of cellular decay and the struggle to understand and break down powers beyond our control.
“Once you have grappled with the sheer physicality that your body will have to endure for the rest of your life,” explains backing vocalist, lyricist, and synth player Kiki GaNun about her experience with dynamic disability, “Then comes the waves of emotions, and the reality that although this is not a fully inclusive and complete identity, it will absolutely color every part of you and your experience.”
Sonically, Silver Pulse intertwines raw, rich, interweaving guitars with string quartets, pulsating bass, and celestial synths and pianos, creating an expansive and emotive soundscape. Produced by Pete de Boer of World Famous Studios, the all-analog production amplifies Bleakheart’s expansive sound and somber songwriting, inviting listeners in for a heart-wrenching, intimate experience.
Silver Pulse features an all-star cast of Doom veterans, including JP Damron (Vermin Womb) and Mark Chronister on guitars, Kiki GaNun on vocals and synth, Kelly Schilling (Dreadnought) on vocals, keys, synth, and bass guitar, and Joshua Quinones (Oryx) on drums. The lyrics are written by Kiki GaNun and Kelly Schilling, with string quartet arrangements by Kelly Schilling. The string quartet includes Amy Rosenberg and Ciarra Denman on violins, Anthony Limon on viola, and Ron Schilling III on cello. Brian d’Agosta of Gostworks Art creates the eerie sensuality of the album’s cover art.
Out Friday on Seeing Red Records, you can pre-order Silver Pulse—a vinyl must-listen—here. But, until then, turn off the lights, light some candles, and immerse yourself in its stunning beauty right here, exclusively here.
Upping the ante of Silver Pulse‘s aural beauty, the video for the single “Where I’m Disease” is a visual masterpiece written, directed, edited, and designed by the band Bleakheart Productions. It stars Claire Steeno, with Frank Guerra as the director of photography and Alex Pace and Kelly Schilling as camera operators.
