As we turn the calendar page from April to May, Earth Month may have ended yesterday, but that doesn’t render the care and feeding of this spinning hellscape we mosh upon any less important. Especially not in the eyes, minds, and riffs of Unearthly Rites.

With their upcoming release, Ecdysis, these Finns revive the raw, unapologetic spirit of the 1980s, when the grimy edges of crust core blended seamlessly with the ferociousness of death metal. Their debut full-length for Prosthetic Records is both a nod to the past and a fierce rally against the pressing issues of today: corporate greed and environmental negligence.

Guitarist Santtu, known for his crushing riffs, gives voice to the band’s ethos with stark clarity: “As the world is burning, prepare to die! Neanderthal riffs and sonic torture from the death metal caves of Finland.”

Unearthly Rites promises to bring Ecdysis to life on stage with a series of performances that are sure to be as electrifying as they are impactful. The tour kicks off on May 3 at Bar Loose in Helsinki, alongside Pestigore & Aedes. The energy will undoubtedly escalate as they hit Vastavirta Klubi in Tampere and Nirvana in Turku, sharing stages with Sonic Poison, Disguised Malignance, Frigid Winter, Below The Graves, and Ruuhi.

This series of live shows not only supports the album but also marks an important moment for Unearthly Rites as they deliver their message directly to the fans: the fight against environmental destruction is urgent, and it is now.

You can order Ecdysis here and hear the album’s exclusive full stream in all its green glory right here, right now, right below – only on Decibel.
